Mission Statement:
To provide encouragement and support for faculty engaged in teaching Learning Communities or creating Learning Communities; and to serve as a resource and springboard for Active Learning and faculty networking throughout the college.
2005-06 Goals:
- FACULTY AND LEARNING COMMUNITY INITIATIVES (encouragement)
- Increase the amount and types of assistance available to faculty developing Learning Communities
- Foster development of new Learning Communities, both integrated and linked
- Establish budget needed for Learning Communities initiatives
- Encourage faculty participation in Teaching Squares (target 6-8 groups)
- Promote active learning opportunities and seminars
- Encourage faculty to increase class exchanges
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT (support)
- Encourage faculty to increase class exchanges
- Increase books and tapes on reserve in Library for Learning Community
- Establish closer liaison with George Marquez ad Judy Keller to focus on Active Learning, seminars, and professional development opportunities related to Learning Communities
- Disseminate conference information and encourage attendance by a cross-section of faculty
- Maximize our internal resources by using full-time and adjuncts as faculty trainers.

- Finalize guidelines and Learning Community application process
- Develop specialized Student Evaluation for Learning Communities
- Continue to be involved in the institutional plan for space allocation as it relates to Learning Communities
- Ensure deans are kept in the information loop-Teaching and Learning Team members will meet with their respective Dean once a month
- Meet with ILC once a semester
- Meet with VPI once a month.
