Notes
- Meeting Details
- Sharon and Mona will not be able to attend next week.
- On November 8 Mona has requested an hour of the group's time to review the website. We will meet initially on the 4th floor, then migrate to Joe's lab about 2:30.
- Assessment
- Group feels we should focus on three areas:
- Student Outcomes (Satisfaction, improved learning, connections between disciplines, etc.)
- Faculty Outcomes (Professional growth)
- Institutional Outcomes (Enrollment, success rate, etc.)
- We next proceeded to examine several instruments collected by team members to see if they fit our needs. Group concensus seems to be that we need at least four assessments at present:
- An entry survey asking demographic and marketing-type questions, possibly other questions as well.
- A focus group based on the De Anza's guidelines, to be conducted twice a semester.
- One exit survey, objective in nature, used to gather quantitative data
- An open-ended exit survey (a speerate document from above) used to gather qualitative data
- Various people within the committee have agreed to look at all the provided instruments in order to prepare our own instruments, assignments are in the action list.
- Several good comments on specific sample instruments were generated:
- De Anza Small Focus Group
- Want to video tape these
- Concerns about privacy if students say something negative
- Transcripts have been suggested as a way to simultaneously protect provacy and allow instructors to see negative comments.
- Student Satifaction Survey (FTCC)
- Only has four Linkert(?)-type options, current research says an even number greater than four. (Did I hear that correctly?)
- Nice & short
- Break out study groups as a seperate question
- Ask how students are communicating outside class -- check boxes for
- IM
- Texting
- Telephone
- MySpace / Blog
- Study Group
- Entry Survey (FTCC)

- Modify to "What would you change or improve about your LC?"
- Distributed last week of class
- Satisfaction Survey with all the little boxes (on a hillside, little boxes made of ticky-tacky . . . I am tired of typing!!!)
- Very poorly-worded questions, but we want to consider
- 1st column, last two questions
- 2nd column, 3rd question
- Very poorly-worded questions, but we want to consider
- Student Questionairre #2 and #1
- Nice and short, measure student engagement
- Possibly work into other instruments
- Have other comperable sections complete for comparison.
- Student Feedback Questionairre
- Can be rolled into student satisfaction
- Asks several questions indicative of critical thinking including #1, 2, 5, 6, 7, & 8
- De Anza Small Focus Group
- Group feels we should focus on three areas:
- Future Plans
- 10/25 -- Continue discussion of assessment
