Agenda:

  1. Continued Load Issues
  2. Emotional Intelligence Workshop
  3. Cohorts

Notes:

  1. Continued Load Issues
    1. Paul sent a statement to us via Lee. Some find the statement completely insulting, some of us find portions of it insutling, no one is happy.
    2. To the best of our knowledge Paul and Linda haven't met
    3. Paul will meet with us on October 12
    4. Lee told us about stipends, which might be a good way to pay us.
    5. We disagree strongly with Paul's 'math.' The only real cost is the cost of the adjuncts used to back-fill. He's also calculating the salaries of TWO people to do ONE job, which is not what is really happening.
    6. Sonya feels we are being tapped out and overloaded. As usual, the busiest people on campus are tapped for this task, and as usual their efforts are unguided, unappreciated, and under-compensated.
    7. Continued discussion of load vs. stipend. The flexability to choose one or the other would be very nice.
    8. While we need to be solutions-oriented that's a difficult task. When we come up with solutions admin questions our actions. If we don't come up with solutions we sit around twiddling our thumbs. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.
    9. Once again we aren't getting substantive feedback from admin -- just finger-pointing and more freaking nitpicking. How freaking often are we going to have to re-do what we've already done? Swimming backwards . . . .
    10. Who is going to do all this if we don't? If this isn't a group activity momentum will be lost and the efforts eventually abandoned.
    11. What about our mission? We started out focused on LCs, but it looks like we might have to move away from that. What else could we do?
    12. Best Teaching Practices document, for instance. Why don't we have one?
    13. Resolved to continue communicating on this issue through email.
  2. Emotional Intelligence Workshop
    1. Flyer in email today
    2. Sequetta will be RSVP person
  3. Cohorts
    1. Cohorts need to be a focus of LCs.
    2. D'Ann sent out a good email
    3. Chancellor's recent email also touched on this issue
