Terms, Abbreviations & Icons

  • Readings = articles or chapters that should be completed BEFORE the class session
  • Topics = short graded papers or projects
  • Quizzes = short multiple-choice quiz on designated material
  • Activities = ungraded assignments done in class that expand on material on the textbook or from lecture.
  • Exercises = graded practices covering specific objectives. Exercises generally will be completed in one class session.
  • Projects = graded assignments. Projects take from two class sessions to an entire semester.
  • References = documents provided for additional information. You will never be tested on a reference document. If you're falling behind in class, the reference documents should be ignored.
  • Admin = administrative items needed to make the class run more smoothly.
  • Notes = tips on how to handle particular assignments.
  • New Information Icon = Content posted after we've covered associated material in class.
  • Gallery Icon = Gallery of web sites serving as examples of techniques or concepts discussed in class
  • Viewlet Icon = Viewlet (short movie) demonstrating a software technique. Hoover over the icon to see the show's title. Please remember that a Viewlet's content does notreflect all the material in a chapter.
  • Link Icon = Link to a web site used in lecture. Hoover over the icon to see the site's name or URL.

Install and load Windows 2003 server with patches and Service Packs.

  • 2 Hards drives will be assiged to every student (Windows 2000/2003 server)
  • Write names and server install on paper tabs and stick on to drives with tape.
  • Sign role sheet with hard drive numbers and server install.
  • Make sure hard drive key is used to remove existing Hard drive.
  • Remove Network cable from PC.
  • Change Bios to booth from the CD Drive.
  • Load CD and Reboot PC
  • Install Windows 2003 Server.
  • Load Antivirus software.
  • Change Bios back to original settings.
  • Load security updates and service packs from the Microsoft.
  • When completed remove drive and install original drive and check to make sure PC comes up fine.
Week 3 - September 18th

Install and Load Windows 2000 Server withs patches and Service Packs

  • Make sure hard drive key is used to remove existing Hard drive.
  • Remove Network cable from PC.
  • Change Bios to booth from the CD ROm Drive.
  • Load CD and Reboot PC
  • Install Windows 2003 Server.
  • Load Antivirus software.
  • Change Bios back to original settings.
  • Load security updates and service packs from the Microsoft.
  • When completed remove drive and install original drive and check to make sure PC comes up fine.
  Download the following -- do not install until your instructor tells you to!

  Components of WWW services.
  Midterm - Serv-U, Updates, etc. Anything discussed in class (excepting SMTP and NNTP) is fair game. Test will be 80% hands-on, 20% written.
