Calendar

  • Week 1 (1/16 - 1/20)
    • Get an Adobe ID
    • Download and install Captivate 2 trial, watch the tutorials.
    • Read the Captivate Article from Digital Web
    • Create small captivate file on how to use any aspect of Dreamweaver
    • Group Project, due Feb. 2
      • Download and explore Picasa 2
      • Design a series of Captivate files on using Picasa -- at least six tutorials
      • Include features of use to average web design student
      • Include a bitmap "logo screen" w/ credits at front of project -- see Sharon's example
      • Must have a common look and feel throughout project -- spellings, grammar, dialog boxes
      • Consider scripting in advance
      • Can you use Captivate to link the files together?
      • Include a quiz or other evaluative instrument at the end of the presentation(s)
  • Week 2 (1/22 - 1/27)
    • Exploring PowerPoint
      • Explore the various PowerPoint templates available on the web.
      • Working as a group, develop a list of style characteristics shared by good PowerPoint templates.
      • Place this information inside a PowerPoint presentation with an original customized template.
      • Use the PPT above as a "scrapbook" for archiving screen shots of PowerPoint templates you like. Each group member must include four templates and a short description of why the templates are effective.
  • Week 3 (1/29 - 2/3) --
    • Monday (1/29) is 12th Class Day -- Instructors, please certify your classes!
  • Week 4 (2/5 - 2/10) -- eBooks
    • Download and install Microsoft Reader, Reader's Text-to-Speech Engine, and Read in Microsoft Reader.
    • Skim the "help" file.
    • Download any title from the University of Virginia eBook library. Play with the advanced features of eBooks.
    • Create an eBook
      1. Visit Project Gutenberg, and download the Grimm Brother's fairy tales as a text file. This file has dozens of fairy tales.
      2. Choose three of the fairy tales and paste them into word.
      3. Format the document to remove unneeded line breaks. (Video -- this is for a Page Design class, but the underlying principles are the same.)
      4. Add a table of contents with Word hyperlinks to individual stories
      5. Add one public domain image (100+ years) to each fairy tale.
      6. Use MS Word and the "Read in Microsoft Reader" utility to create the eBook.
  • Week 5 (2/12 - 2/17) -- no class, Sharon ill
  • Week 6 (2/19 - 2/24) -- Holiday: Professional Development (aka makeup day for Tarana!)
  • Week 7 (2/26 - 3/3) -- Audio Editing I, Video Editing I
    • New project discussion & brainstorming session
    • Reading: Don't Make The Demo Look Done
    • Visit eBay, find a few auctions ending soon for a pair of wireless microphones (Jerry Springer Type) for $200 or less.
    • Make sure you have the latest version of Windows Media Player installed.
    • Install Fruity Loops (get from Sharon)
    • Install Adobe Audition trial (from Adobe.com)
    • Install Windows Media Encoder
    • Assignment: Audio Podcasting
      • Record a short audio file
      • Clean it up
      • Rip audio from a CD
      • Fade the audio in and out
      • "Mix paste" the two segments
      • Export as an MP3
      • Import into an iPod
  • Week 8 (3/5 - 3/10) -- Video Editing, Panoramas
    • Possible meetings with Ms. Phillips this week -- check email daily!
    • Can we meet at 4:00 PM to shoot panoramas?
  • Spring Break (3/16)
  • Week 9 (3/19- 3/24) -- Shoot video this week -- you can do this during the day and skip Friday's class if you choose.
  • Week 10 (3/26 - 3/31) -- Audio Editing
    • Install Adobe Audition trial on your machines
    • Install Fruity Loops trial on your machines (get from Sharon)
  • Week 11 (4/2 - 4/7) -- No Class - Friday (4/6) Spring Holiday
  • Week 12 (4/9 - 4/14) -- Web Cams, Virtual Meetings
    • Thursday (4/12) is the last day to withdraw
  • Week 13 (4/16 - 4/21) -- Advanced Scanning, Adobe Acrobat, FlashPaper
  • Week 14 (4/23- 4/28) -- Google SketchUp, Swish
  • Week 15 (4/30 - 5/5) -- Continue working on final project
  • Week 16 (5/7 - 5/10) -- Project due
