Terms, Abbreviations & Icons

  • ic = in class. Activity, lesson, or other calendar item completed in class.
  • Readings = articles or chapters that should be completed BEFORE the class session
  • Topics = short graded papers or projects
  • Quizzes = short multiple-choice quiz on designated material
  • Activities = ungraded assignments done in class that prepare you for additional classwork or which expand on material on the textbook or from lecture.
  • Exercises = graded practices covering specific objectives. Exercises generally will be completed in one class session.
  • Projects = graded assignments. Projects take from two class sessions to an entire semester.
  • References = documents provided for additional information. You will never be tested on a reference document. If you're falling behind in class, the reference documents should be ignored.
  • Bookwork = Work from the textbook chapter.
  • Admin = administrative items needed to make the class run more smoothly.
  • Notes = tips on how to handle particular assignments.
  • HOT = textbook, Dreamweaver Hands-On Training
  • Viewlet Icon = Content posted after we've covered associated material in class.
  • Gallery Icon = Gallery of web sites serving as examples of techniques or concepts discussed in class
  • Link Icon = Viewlet (short movie) demonstrating a software technique. Hoover over the icon to see the show's title. Please remember that a Viewlet's content does not reflect all the material in a chapter.
  • New Material Icon = Link to a web site used in lecture. Hoover over the icon to see the site's name or URL.
  • Reading Icon = Supplemental reading

  Exploring DesignGallery Live: Visit Microsoft's Design Gallery Live and find eight pieces of clip art related to fruit. Download the clip art to your PC. Start FrontPage, and make a page with the text "My Fruit" at the top. Place your fruit clip art on the page. (Insert > Picture > Clip Art). Save the page in the Exercises folder as FRUIT.HTM. 4/26

  Downloading New Themes: Microsoft.com has several FP Themes available for download in their Front Page Add-In Center. Locate, download, and install any new theme pack. Create a small two-page website using this template. Store it in your EXERCISES folder, ina sub-folder called "Themes." 4/26
  Extra credit for downloading and playing with three other Add-Ins (excepting templates.) +10 points for a one-page paper summarizing your findings. 4/26

  Create a new folder in FPCLASS named XHTML. You will be saving a few exercises to this folder.

  xHTML -- Normally the Dreamweaver students complete these very short lessons over several weeks. You'll be completing them in one week. The exercises ask you to upload with Dreamweaver. Please upload with WS_FTP instead.
