Terms, Abbreviations & Icons

  • Bookwork = work through the chapter, performing all exercises. Bookworks are graded assignments. The first class session of each week will be used for bookwork. (In evening classes, the 1st 1/2 of the class will be used for bookwork.)
  • Readings = articles or chapters that should be completed BEFORE the class session
  • Topics = short graded papers or projects
  • Quizzes = short multiple-choice quiz on a specific .
  • Activities = ungraded assignments done in class that expand on material on the textbook or from lecture.
  • References = documents provided for additional information. You will never be tested on a reference document. If you're falling behind in class, the reference documents should be ignored.
  • Admin = administrative items needed to make the class run more smoothly.
  • Notes = tips on how to handle particular assignments.
  • Dreamweaver HOT = Dreamweaver Hands-On Training, your textbook.
  • WOW = Optional reading from THE WEB DESIGN WOW! BOOK, Jack Davis & Susan Merritt, Peachpit Press. ISBN No. 0-201-88678-2. You may purchase this text at the North Lake Bookstore. The suggested readings will help you develop design techniques. You will not be tested over this material.

Gallery Icon = Gallery of web sites serving as examples of techniques or concepts discussed in class
Viewlet Icon = Viewlet (short movie) demonstrating a software technique. Hoover over the icon to see the show's title. Please remember that a Viewlet's content does not reflect all the material in a chapter.
Link Icon = Link to a web site used in lecture. Hoover over the icon to see the site's name or URL.

Exploring Color - Turn in--you may create this document in Word and describe the colors rather than drawing them. You may also find graphics that you can import or cut and paste into Word and describe.

Quiz 2 - Ch 1-3 --Number and type your answers only in MS Word and send to your instructor as an attachment to an email message. This is the procedure for the remainder of the quizzes.

Reference Locating Images on the Net - Read through this document for help in finding images for your site. Remember, all images used MUST meet the NLC Copyright Guidelines.

Reference Simple Graphics in Fireworks Viewlet: Simple Buttons in Fireworks
Some students may have purchased the Macromedia suite, which comes with Fireworks. This Viewlet will help you get started.
Admin File Organization -VERY IMPORTANT  especially for ONLINE students!
